Thanks all. I'm really looking forward to it and hoping I can be out on my own Friday afternoon!!

I was trying some leathers on yesterday feeling like a total fraud cos I haven't got my license yet...but I want to be protected!!

I'd appreciate some advice - I kinda feel leathers is the way to go with some hard protection at elbows, shoulders and a back protector but I won't be racing around (immediately:D) scraping my knees along the floor. Some of the kit I have looked at has foam padding in these locations which I guess can't provide as much protection, but are more comfortable I guess....any thoughts / advice would be much appreciated

Personally, whether you choose leather or textile clothes, I'd always go for something with at least CE approved armour in the shoulders and elbows as a minimum. A back protector is also a very good idea.

Many jackets don't come with a back protector, but will have a pocket for one, just make sure the one you get (if you decide you want to) will fit.

Hi mate and welcome

Where are you located ? BMF show is on in Peterborough only a month after your test so maybe worth getting waterproof textiles now, whilst weather is still 'iffy', and looking for leathers at the show. Rather than spend a few hundred quid on a suit you might scuff up in first few months of riding.

Best of luck next Friday

Hello. I passed my DAS in August last year. Failed twice. Was annoyed at the time but it meant i had more lessons and time on the bike until i passed so if you fail don't sweat it. Yea was more expense but i was that little bit less likely to die!

Like the more experienced bikers have said CE armour is a minimum which is what i did. I went hein gericke. Jkt had CE back protector aswell as standard elbow etc. Sheltex (HG own brand cheaper gortex stuff) has been excellent. Completely waterproof and breathable enough. I went Arai same as yourself. Haven't fallen off (at speed!) yet but assume it is as good as the reviews say...

Love your choice of bike - if i was buying now would get what you got. Got er6n. Absolutely love it. Way fast enough for me.

I commute which is why i went textile as more practical.

Enjoy the depth of my experience and knowledge!!! Don't let the bike obsessed people put you off - they are a bit weird!

Oh yea this may sound REALLY obvious but when you pass take it slow into corners. I'm still learning how to take corners and have found going in slow and gunning it out is fun and better than going in a bit too fast for my comfort level and realising it in the middle of the corner and (metaphorically) closing my eyes and hoping for the best.

Believe me,this advice is not just for new riders, this is one to remember all your biking life, its not only the safest way to ride with more experience you will find its also the quickest:)

Thanks for the advice...slow in to corners and fast out, great basic advice which I shall follow. I got my CE protection and following some links on here bought a Forcefield back protector.....I just gotta pass!!

I'll let you know how I get on!! test is on Friday!!

Big day tomorrow.....hmmm!!

'U' turns generally OK.....but circa 85% of the time, hope the 15% doesn't apply tomorrow!! Occasionally do a lifesaver on a right turn as I'm turning, not before!!

Fingers and everything else crossed!!

Bike is in the garage and I want to play with it!!!
