After a comment on another thread, and not wanting to derail it any more, who decides who is a troll and when it's time to ban them?

Let's face it, we've had the one regular that comes back under different guises (and seems to be back again), so how do you go about deciding if he's one and the same?

I don't have a problem with trolls, they can be entertaining, especially if the target is unaware that they are in fact being trolled. If someone says something or says it in a particular way with the intention of provoking a response, that is not necessarily a bad thing.

However, when someone is derailing threads for the sake of it, they ought to be banned IMO. They seem to have no apparent purpose other than to spoil the flow of a discussion/debate/argument.

That was a quick thread derailment Trix, even by your standards.

Sorry, I've only just noticed this thread and I'll try and answer.

We are extremely tolerant of all posting styles on here and give everyone the benefit of the doubt.  If they begin to stray off the path of what is acceptable or not, we will PM them with a friendly request to pack it in.

A rough guide on how we expect members to behave can be found here:

http://bike.mywowbb.com/forum1/6594.html

If people continue to ignore the rules or our request to calm down, they will be banned.

Some people, for whatever reason, will try and come back as another user and continue to make mischief.  It can be irritating and distracting, but it is only matter of time before they are detected and banned once more.

Because we have to 100% certain a user is indeed an alias or false identity, it can sometimes take a bit longer; but we'd rather wait and make sure than ban someone who is innocent.

As moderators we have privileged access to all kinds of data and information.  Once confirmed, it's "bye-bye" and we don't even allow them to have their swan song.

Does that help?

Because it is owned by a company and not a private thing.

karTER wrote: Your footie team were just about perfect in the 2006 world cup final though. Mmmhhh .... it's very difficult to talk about football in a bike forum ...               When I used to race motocross & enduro I was a "short of breath" racer.          So I decided to train in football during the week, in an amateur team. I did it because I had two free trainings per week and then the possibility to race in the weekends as long as I'd never been convoked !                                                                                                   Anyway ... let's say that football entourage is not quite my ideal of living :D and if this is true for an amateur team ...

I was going back to 2006 when you dumped us in the semis and we were at home.  That hurt, but what a game.

We do seem to have started better than you this time though...
