The reason for all the traffic was it was the 50th anniversary of the mass trespass on Kinder Scout grouse moor where a great guy called Benny Rothman was sent to prison for 6mths for rioutous assembly:(

There was such a national outcry about this that it led to a change in the law!!!!!!!;)

Anyhow it was a good day out and good to meet one of the south east massive[ not so massive]:D

any other suverners are welcome, as I was made welcome by Oma and SG When I had my ride out with them down souf
The next NW rideout will be organised by Knee down or Kev, Knee down has suggested BSB at Oulton park early next month

Big dave from Stockport what happened mate we waited till 5 past 12  and had to leave to make the rondevous with Breva and his mate

Chatting on line is great - don't get me wrong - but meeting the guy's  - and girl - on Sunday it what we should all aspire to if we can.

Thanks Petrid for the extra info on the 50th anniversary of the mass trespass on Kinder Scout! I couldn't remember the details - I heard you alot better in the pub in Manchester on the way home! More to come on our trip...when the writing mood takes me..soon!

Oulton park on the 7th of May is a defo for me!! BSB Virgin that I am!! Need that cherry popping! Kneedown tells me it's £27 on the gate or £22 online....since you all know how tight I am with money - I'm dtermind to enjoy it!!

It would please me for our NW group and others to join me for a ride up the Lakes. Thinking meet at Devils Bridge (early) and go: Windermere (A591), Kirkstone pass (A 592), Ullswater to A 66 then down A 6 (Shap)......

or
A 66 to Keswick, (B 5289)Derwent Water, Buttermere over to the coast road via A 66, A 5086 to Egremont onto the A 595 and down to join the A 5092 and pick up the A 590 to Devils....

Fucking great roads - I know Petrid will know em all (old biking git) - good weather and, esspecially for the second route, early start needed ;)

Glad to be making some good friends - Naomi and I will be riding to Edinburgh within next couple o weeks - just for the day to photograph a litter of pups - any one is welcome for the ride - PM me.

:dude::dude::dude:

Just a short one to say it was great to meet up and the food and company, and the roads to and from the Snake Pass were excellent!!

We never found our jam session so sadly had to settle for a night at the pub with fine food and and a selection of 5 local real ales.....

Thanks to Petrid for teeing it all up. Come on down to Boxhill some time. :)

I enjoyed myself as did the missus. She was a little shy i think as she doesn't know all that much about bikes and didn't want to make a fool of herself. I think she just enjoyed listening to all the stories you old.......sorry experienced riders had to offer. The ride was great and so was the company and scenery if a little slow for my liking but hey i'm a hooligan sometimes.

We had to leave the other guys to ride on to Leek from the cat 'n fiddle as we had other commitments to attend to and i havn't waterproofed my leathers and the weather seemed to be closing in. I got my fix on the way home as on my way back through Glossop came across a 2005 Ferrari 360 who fancied a play. So play we did, the missus was a little shall we say 'upset' with me but i enjoyed meself !

Enjoyed every minute of it......Roll on Oulton Park and the BSB's

Peace and Love !

We continued down the A57, down round and mainly down (great road – marred my cars – 'I'll be back') coming along side Ladybower reservoir. I tried to imagine what the picturesque valley might have looked like without the damn damn – but it was pretty enough anyway. (can a biker say pretty?)

We were heading over to Bamford in pursuit of petrol, mainly for Petrid – who was loathed to have a repeat of a previous NW ride out.....The snaking 57 crosses the Ladybower just before the turn off for the A6013, being a short arse I stood up on my pegs to see over the wall, looking at the continuation of the man-made lake on the left.

I got me some extra go go juice too and the four bikes continued through the charming village of Hope, complete with a spiffing looking church, flowers, trees – nice! Soon after the village we took a left up a narrow road. Before us lay some ominous looking limestone rocks jutting out of the looming hills. We were heading up the steep twisting road, cutting like a riverine in the cleavage of the green and grey flanking hills towering each side of us. Petrid still leading the way, with me then Kneedown and then Tiger900 completing our mini convoy, we made steady progress behind the cars and cyclists to the top.

The summit levelled out to open moorland. Less level was Kneedown, who spat past myself and Petrid like a man on a mission. With a loud rasp from his squat Carbon Company Can the 600cc Suzuki, although his missus is neither big or fat, shot forward in to ludicrous speed with surprising gusto. Game on then!

As we chased the duo on the Bandit, my mothering instincts kicked in big time – it's not my place to worry or to impose my own values on another rider, but in the short time I've know Kneedown I like him enough to worry. It's an improper reaction, but with his other half in jeans and KneeDown with less than a years riding experience – my heart was in my mouth. I'd never ride at those speeds while responsible for Naomi, in the fear of spending the rest of my days in guilt and regret. To his credit – the fucker was fast, took good lines and looked comfortable.

We soon wound our way back down from the hills to the A6 into Buxton. Tiger900 caught up with the nutters and Petrid lead us through the multiple roundabouts in the town and out the other side to the A5004 – the road to The Cat and Fiddle. Rising up, back into the moors, a few spits of rain wet out visors. The road looked inviting, wider than the pass we'd got a boogie on, but smooth and twisty – just the way I like em.

Bikers passed with pleasing regularity, another Kevin land mark lay ahead, The Cat. I've read about it, been told about it, heard how the road can catch out the over keen and finally, after years of going to Devils Bridge for a bike meet and pretty much heading north for all my riding needs, I was approaching another small biking legend.

An oncoming biker gave us the thumbs down, Petrid and I spotted him, so there would be no first attack on the road leading to the pub. Just as well anyway as the rain would have made anything less than smooth riding iffy, and I'd not seen this road before.

There weren't many bikers out at the Fiddle, the cloudy day may have put them off. I tend to be a morning biker myself if I have a part day to spare, so maybe it was past it's peak. The inside was smaller than I imagined – like an anti Tardis. The pool table had a wooden cover over it for us to place our helmets. Tiger900 got the brews in (cheers fella) and we settled into some more chat and natter.

Kneedown and I seem to have the same sense of humour and had each other entertained easily with various biking tales. Also some stories featuring how tight I am with money – got some good laughs. His missus was more at ease with us this time and I got the impression she's way too good for Kneedown – each to their own – he must be good at something?

Petrid seems relaxed and confident with everyone, his line of work, his travels and (sorry mate) decades of biking, there is never anything he says that doesn't commend listening to. Tiger900 is the quietest, least assuming member of our group and so having the same brand of bike and same three cylinder engine, I asked him what it was like to be perched so high up. He grinned down at me and told me that he didn't need to stand on his foot pegs to see over walls! It had obviously amused him to see me straining to see the other half of the reservoir earlier. He's perhaps the kind of man who doesn't need to talk all the time – he certainly didn't seem timid (cheeky git)

The weather out side was still damp, Kneedown and his much better half decided to split off for home, which left Petrid, Tiger900 and I. Tiger comes from Chester and me from Blackpool, so as Petrid is a Manchester lad we thought it wise to ride together and wind our way home. And wind we did – the next section was where things hotted up.....

3rd and final part pending.... (wish I'd just written 'we had a fuckin good ride out on sunday - the end) ;):P
