just a quick one, i normally ride on dipped beam (single headlight) but see a fair few bikes with theirs on full (i.e. twin headlights) - should i be riding with the former or the latter, bearing in mind that the aim is to 'be seen'?  presumably it won't really dazzle car drivers during the day?!  is the main beam really that much brighter on a bike?

Sorry, I completely disagree.  Riding on full beam will only serve to irritate and annoy other roads users and continue to give us a bad name.

Dipped beam is fine.

And what he said too.

Also, isn't it a requirement in law to 'dip your headlights in the face of on-coming traffic'?

How can you be seen if the other road user is blinded by the dazzle of your beams?  :?

Think back to your DAS course. What did your instructor advise?

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that because you have your lights on, you will be seen, at night especially you can blend into the headlights of a following car, when approaching a junction its a good idea to move off line a couple of feet then back, this way you have a better chance of being seen.

For being seens and so that cagers can judge / realise your speed and distance better, it's a good idea to set up a triangle of lights i.e. adding two spots below your main light.

But when you filter, cagers tend to focus on the bright shiny thing in their morrir, causing them to move towards it, making your gap narrower.

With a traingle, the object (you) will grow as you approach them and the space between th lights will increas.

I disagree.

It's irritating in your mirror, even in daylight. Also means you won't see much else in the mirror other than the headlight glare. It's a lot harder to judge where the hell they are and how fast they're approaching too.

It annoys me a bit about modern bikes that you can't turn the lights off without loads of pishing around pressing several buttons in the right order. It's like playing fucking Simon!

Not in my experience.

You won't have the option to turn off your lights at all soon.

I think that is what he meant matey - press the buttons in a certain order to override it - ike changing the speedo from KPH to MPH.
