Hi all, thought you might find this amusing reading

http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/2008/mono20.aspx

It is a report on crash frequency with some fairly abused statistics. There are some UK stats but most are from Australia. The "finding" is that Oz bikers are 29 times more likely to die than car occupants! Problem is it includes off road crashes, only looks at if you are in a crash, not per km travelled and other nonsense.

Highlights for me include that crash frequency is highest between 2 and 6 (sounds like peak hour to me) and that single vehicle accidents are uncommon at junctions (I often get scared and jump off). It is scary to think that people form policy based on this sort of stuff. You could easily argue that most accidents happen while people are braking so we should ban brakes.

More interesting is the proportion of deaths with people with no license, no helmet or an incorrectly fitting helmet and people riding unregistered bikes. That makes it seem a whole lot safer to ride if you aren't a knob.

I don't know what it's like over there, but here most of the press will dispute statistics that show us in a bad light, but yet happily quote them when they are in our favour.

I'm guessing you're going to be quite an expert on sta-testicles, aren't you?

Don't worry Goiter, the forward-facing numberplates will soon cut down road fatalities ;)

Are they still talking about that? I'd almost forgotten they were thinking of introducing those.

I heard about it a while ago but thought it was so ridiculous that it could never possibly happen and promptly forgot all about it. Don't look at too many local forums, probably should but I am an asocial sort!
