At cadwell this week and am bobbing my pants about it.
Its for the performance upgrade thing but we get laptime after wards.
Any tips so i wont be a complete danger to  myself and other as i am taking a new bike with me and have recently become really bad at cornering.

HRT run "Rider Skills" days at Cadwell.

It is an instructed and monitered training day/trackday.

Format for a first timer is fairly straight forward.

Register/check-in etc, briefing in the clubhouse. First Gp A (Advanced) session is 9:00am. Then Gp B (Inters) at 9:20 and Gp C (Novices) at 9:40. Gp A back out again at 10:00 etc.

As a first timer you will go out in Gp C in a mini group of 5-6 riders with an instructor leading, and another following (not always), you will swap order as you ride so everyone does at least one lap behind the leader to be shown the correct line around the circuit.  Morning is 4 sessions either following or later leading the group (instructor right behind you) to firstly learn the line around Cadwell - carefull at Charlies 2 and the Gooseneck.  In the later sessions points such as throttle control, body/head position, countersteering etc are covered.

After lunch you will get 3 "Free" sessions. These are a really good intro to trackdays - overtaking is only allowed under certain conditions, so as a track novice it removes much of the fear of being mobbed/taken out by an idiot or a racer on a cheap practice session. For trackday regulars the restrictions will just be annoying, but it does mean that in the 4 years I have been attending I have only seen about a half dozen sessions stopped because of accidents (one was me - doh!). They run 4-5 per year so out of the 80+ sessions I have seen that's a pretty good record.

I know how you feel, I imagine everyone had nerves prior to their first track session, but over the years I have got to know these guys - some of the instructors with HRT also work with other outfits that for example train EMAP employees (Bike staffers etc.) so they are pretty good. In the afternoon why not ask one of the instructors to give you some 1-1 time, they do it for free, and sort your cornering woes.

The one thing I can guarantee, you will ride home more confidently and more skilfully than you rode to Cadwell. If you want to say hi, I am on a black 05 Tuono, my forum name kinda gives a clue to my appearance ;).

I keep going because I like the safety record, (my crash was over exuberance on cold tyres - trying to out drag a GSXR1000 out of Mansfield on an Aprilia, not the most sensible idea! :?) We rarely lose any track time to crashes, and it's a good atmosphere.

A small taste of the day, from an earlier HRT day

I can 't catch the lads in front - I am at least 30bhp down on any of them, and it ain't really a race.;)

Thank you for the information :D

Any one now how to get to cadwell from newark. I can't understand the route planners cause they go a different way to how I've gone pillion or as a car passenger?

Kin' 'ell, do you want picking up as well? :)

A46 to Lincoln,

A158 to Wragby

A157 to Louth

A16 south 1 junction to

A153 to Cadwell.

There are slightly shorter back road routes, but if you aren't that confident this should be OK.

Circuit

edit - aerial piccie is courtesey of "adamanda" from the Ixions

Wow it was well worth it, my cornering will never be the same again. Only got my TZR finish and MoT'd yesterday so it was also my first proper ride on the bike. Dropped it leaving the drive way though and it fucked up on the way home but its all fixed now.

I loved today and would recomend it to anyone it was so worth the learning experiance.

Yay i didn't crash my bike at cadwell park!!!!

Ok - you were there at today's session. I think that was the Bikesafe one wasn't it?

I was there yesterday, on the HRT day, but glad you enjoyed it anyway. I was chatting with one of the police officers responsible for setting up today's shindig - he reckoned some of the bike staffers (Simon Weir) were going, perhaps they'll give the lowdown on their experience.

Noygdb (could u not have picked an easier name to remember? Like RGVMark or something! LOL),
You'll have to come out with the horse and groom lot next time. They seem a nice bunch. I'll pm next time I'm around if u fancy that.

Try starting from Grantham on the A1, then across country to Sleaford, Tattershall, Horncastle, then head for Louth - there's some excellent roads that way !
