Awful but shows what happens if you ride treating the road as a race-track.

I think for me it shows how a normal rider can make some horrific mistakes.

Yeah the guy was obviously going really fast, but havent we all at one time. I put this on because it made me think. I watched it a few times and he did things that i think a lot of us have done at some point. He was chsing the other guy you could see him speed up and take a few more risks when the guy overtook (I know ive noticed myself riding slightly beyond my comfort zone and pushing myself when around a more confident rider) and he totally missjudged his speed and cornering at that last fatal moment (I now espesially as im new to motorcycling that ive come around a few corners thinking my skill doesnt yet match the speed this thing can do).

After i posted this I felt people might think it was some anti fast biking statement from a busy body telling people what to do or a very insensitive video plug simply designed to sensationalise a gory crash.

it wasn't. Someone i know (a non biker) emailed me the link (probably trying to put me off motorcycling) and made me think about how I was riding the next time I was out. Espesially now the hot weather has finally hit.

Pretty scary, feel sorry for the guy going the other way. Red mist is a dangerous thing.

What an arsehole (him not you).

Looks like inexperience to me. We all know that when you're hard on it, you've got to stay focussed and not lose your concentration. The close one with the first rider clearly unsettled him, so he got a fright, stood the bike up and the rest is history.

You ride like a cunt, you die like a cunt.

Edit: Oh, I see it was the oncoming rider who died. What a nightmare.

It's your worst nightmare. You can be doing everything right and it only takes someone else to screw up and you've had it. I've got to say that I've never had a close one with another bike, a few with various four wheelers on the wrong side of the road though. But I suppose that's life for you, you have got to live it or it becomes worthless, you could sit at home and die of a heart attack on the toilet.

This seems to be a thing that you have to go through as a new biker. Everyone has got a horror story and everyone knows their uncles-mothers-brother died on a bike. Just send some links of some car crashes back. It's particularly effective if you can find one with the car they own in it.;)

No shit. Why do some people insist on telling you their worst car/bike accident story when they find out you ride? I always say 'Alright, mate; keep it light for fuck's sake...'

I agree with your reading of the causation, except I think it also looks like the oncoming guy froze.  He might have kept himself alive by a quick woggle to the cold side of his lane.  Hard to know for sure though with the quality of the video.

I believe it's their self justification of not having the balls to ride a bike. It makes them feel happier about sitting in traffic in a hot little tin can. There they sit moaning about noisy bikers cutting up the traffic and meeting up in gangs on nice sunny evenings at the local pub.;)

That's a horrible video, seen it before.  That guy did some things that on the video looked very wrong leading up to the crash, proving that there's a difference between riding fast and riding well, but his fatal mistake was making an overtake before he knew it was safe, probably due to the pressure he was putting on himself to keep up with a faster rider.  (If I'm good at one thing, its stating the obvious.)

There's always someone who's faster.  Just let them go, work on operating the bike smoothly, work on good lines, don't worry about slowing down a faster rider who you're riding with.  Anyone worth riding with will be waiting for you at the next turn and, rather than thinking less of you for not keeping up, will respect you for not riding over your head.

He's a daft selfish bastard. And frankly I see rather a lot of them out when the weather gets warm. They killed the other rider? I hope they live with it for the rest of their days. Some may ride like that from time to time but I can honestly say not me. I've lost count the number of times I've seen my wife bullied on the road and nearly taken out by some speed crazed Gixer jockey (insert latest sports bike of your choice no prejudice) with more ballz than talent simply because she chooses to ride at comfortable road speeds. Typical example is moving out to overtake a line of traffic and then finding someone of the aforementioned type overtaking at the same time and nearly rear ending her or forcing her into the traffic. Happens to me too. Its bollocks. By all means ride fast but ride with consideration for others particularly if they ride a bike too.
