Ara idon't make a flip-up. That possibly says something.............

I certainly wouldn't want to fall off in a Caberg.  I tried a Justissimo in my local dealer's a while ago.  Flimsier than a very flimsy thing.

These days, the only thing that encases my head is an Arai Tour X or a Signet /e......(which is older than it should be and is both Snell & DOT approved but doesn't have an CE mark......ooh, I'm so naughty, I am......)

Having headbutted the tarmac in a Caberg I can vouch for their robustnesnesnes. My head is intact and I only had double vision for a few seconds lol. My Justisimo (which I didn't crash in) never felt flimsy. Of course saying this I don't think I'll ever go back to cheaper brands after getting my Shoei.

When it comes to choosing a helmet, I would always want to ride in it first: not every dealer is prepared to let you do this, but those that do deserve special praise. I chose my current Shoei after Bikes of Brighton (Steve Colby runs the clothing bit: has a ridiculously trick GSXR1000 of which he'll show you a folder full of pictures if you stand still long enough - about 1.6 seconds) let me take a few different lids out for a blast.

Neg may disagree - he knows far more than I do about this - but I'd say that fit is the most important factor, given a reasonable degree of quality. Arais just don't fit my head but the Shoei does, so I wear a Shoei. Likewise my wife wears a Caberg because almost nothing else fits her securely.

As far as changing them goes, if you actually wear your helmet (that is, if you do a fair bit of mileage) it will probably get tatty around the lining and straps long before the integrity of the shell is compromised: I can't imagine getting as much as two years out of a lid with my mileage. If you don't get out much I imagine that UV damage is the biggest threat, so keep it in a dark place when it's not on your head. And if you drop it, even from waist height onto concrete, then there is a risk that it is compromised. Do you want to ride in a compromised helmet?

I certainly agree with your first 7 words.

Happy Caberg wearer of Suffolk.

Ok, lets try another 14 words.   If I had to fall off, I'd prefer to do it in an Arai.

:)

With that sir, I can have no quarrel.;)  And I will do my best to ensure that, when you are knocked off your perch by the wake turbulence from my mighty er5's near-supersonic-passage, you are wearing said article.

Arai users who do subject their lids to any form of impact (crash, or just dropping)have the option of sending them back to Phoenix for an inspection / assessment by Arai factory-trained technicians. It's free - just pay carriage there and back, about £12.

No idea if other helmet companies offer this facility.

If you're blonde, and you wear an Arai - does that make you an Arai-head?

Thats a good service. I'll check with Shoei & see what they do.

Ah.  No offense was intended with my previous, officer.  It's just that in one of my old squadrons we had this routine we'd pull with newbies.  If their wife was at all attractive, we'd remark on that.  Then after a suitable conversational pause, we'd query in a quiet voice "Hey, do you have any naked pictures of your wife?"  Then when there was a shocked silence, we'd say "No?  Well, wanna buy some?"  You had to be there I guess.

Had a Shark, now got an Arai which feels £200 better than the Shark. Very comfortable, wind noise doesn't bother me and I put my faith in Arai's testing. They're usually one of the few lids which don't puncture in the large-metal-spike-from-a-great-height test which the bike press seem to be fond of. :dude:
