I would be totally into seeing a Desmo race the TT this year. I think it should meet the rules. In the hands of a top pilot would it lap faster than the CBR?  Comments or does anyone have any knowledge of such a campaign?

Whether its allowed or not, I think it's more a case of how easy or costly it would be to fettle, because the F1 and senior race bikes are already in a high state of tune. I think Bruce Ansteys GSXR1000 did 206mph down one of the straights last year. The desmo is designed for track use and possibly not suitable to a bumpy roads course.
Also, Im not sure if any owners of these limited edition bikes would be willing to donate their bike to the TT.

Seems like the 206mph is purely a matter of gearing and thus, easily, sorted. The TT is a lot about momentum and they sacrificed acceleration for top end on Crosby Straight and after the Creg. Aerodynamically I imagine the Desmo is at least as slippery in stock form as the Gixxer and they claim over 200bhp right out of the showroom.  Might have a point on the bumpiness but I can't imagine Ohlins can't fettle that.

If I had one I would happily let it run the TT. I mean, otherwise what is the point?

I'd love to see more ducatis at the TT but my point was that the fireblades, R1s, Gixxers and ZX10s that take part in the F1 and senior races arent just geared for more top-end. They are full-on world class superbikes with all associated engine and suspension upgrades and probably punt out more power than a desmosedici.
Colin Edwards WSB SP2 was used one year, but I cant remember the rider..

We might see a 1098R (1198) though..

Joey rode the SP2 engine but it was from Aaron Slight's bike not Edwards.  I think it also had the World Endurance bike chassis.  Rumour has it he took it all to bits to make sure it was OK:D.  He won when DJ broke down.

Ian Lougher 2003. The commentators on the DVD say its the colin edwards WSB winner but that's all I have to go on. Actually, that makes me want to watch the whole thing now..I reckon I will. Beats doing the shopping :)

I am not sure at all that those full on WSBK bikes are much more bespoke than the Desmo  RR. Have you read the reviews? Not too much tweaking and its a 990 MotoGP bike again, everyone is astonished how much it shares, parts-wise- in common with the original MotoGP bike. I do worry it isn't built to handle the rough and bumpy circuit.
