| Intersting poll at this point. Statistically, the one on the left looks like a tree.

Good Friday and i'm up at sparrows fart. Roll out of bed, scratch arse, look out of bedroom window and there it is, sitting on the drive to Lazy Acres where Fatboy left it, a big red Mercedes race truck. It's small in the mines bigger than yours BSB paddock but parked on your drive its huge. My house is the usual starting point for a race weekend as Fatboy lives 100 yds away and Krusty about 1 mile further on, so the truck comes here from Telford the night before so we can load personal effects and enough food for several people for 4 days. The logistics even for a relatively small team like ours are mind boggling.
Easy drive down to Brands, thats the beauty of an early start. Only stop was at BP Truckstop at Rugby for a full English and a run-out. ( now there's a phrase you don't here any more.) Some bright spark at Brands has decided that no-one gets in without this years paddock vehicle passes, so everyone has to park up and send in an advance party to collect passes. Now we're really glad we're early cos this is gonna be chaos later. Things improve when we do get through the gates and we're met by the usual smiling face of Jane who organises the paddock with husband Gareth. They live abroad during the winter in their motor home then come back in summer to travel with BSB doing this.
The rest of Friday is spent setting up the awning and tinkering with the bike. Yep you read that right, only one bike as the engine wasn't ready when we set off but we're hopeful that either Stobbarts or the Dyno Tune truck will bring it down for us, meanwhile we'd better look after the one we do have.
Saturday is free practice day, that means you can pretty much try what you like as your times aren't official and don't count for anything so its the day to experiment with set-up and tyres. We get two 40 minute sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We're really chuffed that our is clocked at 180 mph out in the country and 5th fastest over the start/finish. Not bad for a little bike shop against at least ten works bikes, oh yes, some of these are factory supported teams.
Ten past midnight Gloryboy arrives, i know i take the piss but today he's done a days work then driven down to Kent from Shropshire at his own expense. Glamorous life this racing. We all get a good nights sleep.
Sunday is qualifying day, now it gets really serious. Again we get two 40 minute sessions, one am, one pm. Our plan is to do a race distance in the morning and then go for a quick lap in the afternoon to get a good grid position. Risky if it rains for the 2nd session as you won't get a good time and you'll need a taxi to your gid position, but the forecast is good so we do it our way.( good song title there for somebody)
No real probs in the am or pm but Fatboy isn't good at using qualifiers, it's something we're working on and the only real chink in our armour. We end up 3rd in the Cup and 19th overall. It's been a busy day as the engine did come down with Dyno Tune and Gloryboy and Nooby Nathan have built up bike 2, apart from one little clutch part thats missing. More on this later, hey Anorak.
Saturday night re-inforcements arrive, Doo Dat, Nice Anne and Anorak who's bringing the missing clutch lifter, or not. Somewhere along the way he's lost it so we still only have 1 bike cos no bugger in the paddock ( not even Virgin ) have got one. Turns out to be a blessing. Everyone gets a good nights sleep except Anorak who's gutted.
Sunday morning dawns bright and clear. Just a ten minute warm up this morning then race this afternoon before the first superbike race. If bike 2 had been ready we would have run it in warm up just to give it a shake down, not possible now so we use race bike. I stood on Paddock Hill with DooDat and Anorak to see Fatboy in action and not just over the pit wall. First time past the bike was missing and generally running like a bag of nails. He pulled into the pits and didn't come round again. Back in the awning the problem is soon traced to the rev limiter button that keeps his speed down in pit lane being faulty. Good job we didn't use bike 2 this morning or we'd be fannying about with this on the grid after his pre race warm up lap. Well done Anorak your screw up saved the day!
The race you've prob seen on tv. Fatboy rode really well and if it hadn't been for the pace car being used and 2 red flags we're sure we could have finished higher up the field. Never mind 4th in the Cup and 15th overall isn't too bad a start. Rob Sketchly had a bad start to the season when he failed to see the flags for the pace car out and didn't slow down. He rammed into the back of Youngy, was thrown off as his bike ran on jockeyless, hit the bridge and burst into flames. No one hurt thankfully but one burnt out bike.
Not a bad start but we must do better. 6/10.
My timeline went all to shit when writing this so forgive me i'm only an amateur and will try to improve when i write round two.
Me and Gloryboy pretending we know what we're doing.

Eff it....1 more for luck. This is Doo Dat up to no good. He reckons he only used 3 tyres in a season in his day, and that includes the TT. He probably sold 'em for a profit at the end too!!!
