It's a sad story indeed john especially when you see how the racers of today are revered and paid. Had Bill Ivy been racing 30 years later???
I'm not totally up to date on who exactly Bill Ivy was. It's Surprising how little info there is about him. Jawa does not make note of him. That company seems to be buggered so that's not unusual. However Yamaha seem to have totally forgotten his achievements and the publicity generated for that company by some of the most memorable races seen in those days. That's sad. The truth is that these mega corporations don't give's a F*** about their fallen Angel's. His country men and the community where he was born don't seem to be taking much notice either. That's truely sad.

JJ, as there are only about 6 peeps who even Knew who he was, I dont think this is the place to drum up support.
Its not that this forum don,t care (we all ride bikes, but thats it)some of the forumers dont even read BIKE
If you had introduced yourself first and posted a few times earlier, IE made friends 1st, you may of had more support.
Just a thought mate

JJ this is your crusade, you've taken it on. You came on here looking for help and we were good enough to respond. I offered some practical advice and so did others. Because we're not dancing to your bugle it doesn't give you the right to get abusive. You need help yourself son.

If my stand for justice and recognition, upset or offended any one then of course I am sorry, as for getting on with my crusade with or without the help of others that also will continue, just for the record getting on with my life just about sums the type of help I would expect many thanks, as for Bill Ivy he lost his at 27years old, Barry Sheene god bless him if he was alive, would have been proud.

Barry Sheene would indeed have been proud. He mentioned Bill often in his books when he describes what got him into racing and it is thought that Bill Ivy was one of Barrys main influences because Barry liked the way Bill got all the girls and enjoyed himself both off and on the track. There is even a bit of film of Bill and Barry on the latest Barry Sheene `Legend` DVD. Barry looked about 12 at the time.

Yes very true Barry Sheene loved Bill Ivy at that time Bill had been doing a bit with Barrys dad Franco was his nickname, it was said that at Bills death Barry nearly never raced, my quest is to get some type of memorial for the young Bill Ivy have been e-mailing the I.O.M. TT BOARD BUT NO REPLY, very strange there are very few people wish to help with this matter very sad.

I'm a huge Phil Lynott fan. Why would I expect anyone else to help me campaign his cause, should I wish to do so?

| Edit: Truthful statement removed due to lack of other surviving eye witnesses. My man from that generation was Giacomo Agostini, Read couldn't pull team orders on him if his life depended on it. Last edited on Mon Dec 3rd, 2007 04:29 am by chilidawg

Hate to have to agree, but yes Phil Lynott was a great musician and I always remember talent, sadly there are some people around with no respect and only for that reason have to point out that the gentleman you praise died of an overdose of drugs, very sad but true Mr Bill Ivy died on a shit bike siezing while pursuing his sport after winning the world championship, who is Bill Ivy please do not insult this great racer.

Hi John,
Lynott was consumed by the need for fix. Ivy by the need for speed. I am not disrespecting either of them. Lynott's work however is there for all to HEAR and SEE. Bill Ivy's track record's would have been difficult without the internet. Has Bike Magazine ever wrote an article on Ivy? I don't believe so. The hype and bull of today's "SUPER NAKED MONSTER BRUTALE BANDIT etc. BIKE's" , unuseable speed's, Ton's of torque, traction control is what the masse's are being fed.

Why should the way in somone dies have any bearing on what he did whilst (s)he was alive?
Nor, by my not knowing who Bill Ivy was, was I insulting him. It was simply a question and I was always told to ask question about things I do not know.
So please do not preach to me.

Great news at last, our local bike shop who could not be more helpfull M.C.W. moter cycle world, have decided to help with the Bill Ivy memorial, due to the shop owner being a fan of the great Barry Sheene and now Valentino Rossi understands the problems I face therefore next year the M.C.W. web site will host a Bill Ivy section in his honor, also certain functions and fund raising events will be in the pipe line, this company is based in Thailand Phuket there web site address
http://www.moto-cycleworld.com take a look you just might be surprised, all I can say is merry xmas and many many thanks to M.C.W.
