Just found this site. I can't understand why so many so called bike enthusiasts have never heard of one of our past world champions. This must be a young bikers forum.

Bills achievements are legendary. I agree that not enough is publicised about Bill. This is probably due to lack of film etc. Remember, this was the sixties and most people filmed with cine film without sound (pity).

Bill Ivy was and still is my racing hero (along with Mike the bike). I would like to see the modern riders ride in two or three Grand Prix in one day, each one lasting much longer than todays Moto GP's.

I hope that something is put in place to commemorate the great man. I have heard that there is a plaque in the shopping centre in Maidstone.

P.S.

Bill won the 125cc World title in 1967, not 1968.

Many thanks for you mail, its not just the guys who are on the forum, its the attitude from my home town and Bill Ivys Maidstone, they now refuse to contact me saying the plaque is enough, there only ever world champ, its very sad and also Jawa yes we all no it was a state run rase team then but they stiill produce bikes and enjoy there sucsess, and finaly Yamaha they do have Bill on there list of racers but try getting anything from them, I live in Thailand now over 11 years a company called Moter Cycle World, has helped more than anybody, so the fight still continues cheers nice to have your support.

Hi John,

I live in Pembury, not far from Maidstone. Next time i am in Maidstone, i will make a point of finding the plaque in the old Stoneborough centre to see if it does Bill any justice

Hi John,

Most of the well known circuits are now owned by Jonathan Palmer (ex F1 driver). They all use the same email address. Above is the Tel, fax and email address. Hope this helps.

Just read this thread from start to finish.

John Jones - I suspect that you are a fruitcake. It speaks wonders for the forum that they have maintained composure, when you have clearly got stroppy due to a lack of rabid enthusiasm for your 'quest'. Glad that you got a result, might shut you up.

John, people like this prat are not worth the effort. I think that you are using the wrong forum for your objective. This forum is obviously for young, narrow minded so called bikers who have no sense of history. I wouldn't mind betting that the only motorcycle racer this guy has heard of is Valentino Rossi.

Might be worth finding a more mature site. If you do, let me know and i will join you.

Thanks Tiger T, yes its difficult when people only want to criticise, for me it only makes me more determined, the reason i have been trying to contact Brands Hatch as you would no Ivy started his racing there on 50cc Itoms and im trying to get them to dedicate a race or meet in his name, that would be great, hows Pembury I was born in Pembury Hospital, although from Maidstone cheers.

:D:D Hysterical, pure class, but what would be better than calling me an Aussie Wanker would be an explanation of the above post. Or even why you keep coming back for one thread only. Why not make a genuine contribution to the forum since you are a 'real biker' and we can all learn to be real bikers like you. Keep it up! Great posting! ;)

JJ, here is my tuppence worth. It's very worthy of you to crusade in Bill Ivy's memory, but even though he was a great rider and one of the first racers i noticed as a lad, i think that Maidstone have done their bit if they have placed a plaque in his honour, how many people get that? Many fine racers have died enjoying their sport and then been totally forgotten within a few years, at least Bill has his name on display in his home town. Carry on your campaining, and i wish you luck, but don't be surprised if not many of us join you, especially as that's the only reason you come on here.
