Evening All,

Okay, lets start auctioning another item, possibly the star item, for the 125 Challenge. As I am sure most of you know the 125 Challenge is in aid of Cancer Research UK, and our very own wonderfull BB owners , Nomad and the Lovely Wendy, have kindly donated a two nights bed and breakfast stay at the riders rest in France. THIS ITEM IS ONLY AVAILABLE DURING 2008. You will have to make your own way to the venue. Please do not bid if you are unable to make it to France during this year.

This auction closes Sunday March 23rd (Easter Sunday) at 19:00

Do I hear £20?

(Kar, as usual, can you stickey this for me?)

This auction thread has been withdrawn.

Please visit
http://125challenge.wetpaint.com/page/Auction+-+Riders+Rest if you wish to place a further bid. All bids from this page are still standing on the new page.

Apologies to those who don't beleive this is the best place for an auction. I will add no further posts of this nature.

I feel I should explain here.

We're all for charitable events on Bike, hence the section, but individual sales in the Talk About Anything area aren't really appropriate.

We got in touch with Punky and told her that we'd be moving it to this section to run its course and that, in future, we'd prefer that she only link to and promote auctions on Bike's forum, rather than hosting them here.

Why? Because if we act as a springboard for any kind of sales or transactions, we're in very murky waters legally - if we're seen to be promoting or involved with any exchanges of money, we could be held responsible for disagreements and complications. The magazine and publisher, quite reasonably, want to avoid any such situations entirely.

We're more than happy for anyone to link to and talk about their events, auctions and sponsored rides, but we can't have any sales or money changing hands via the board.

Sorry for any upset or misunderstanding - we're not evil tyrants, but we have to put the magazine and forum first, however unpleasant that may seem.

Thanks for listening.

Khal mate, whilst I understand editoral policy, this is bollocks:(.

EMAP or whoever are in no way liable for any ad placed in this section.

Having said that, at the begining of the forum you said it was not a democracy and I supported you:D

If only, mate. Look at it this way: User A promotes a charity auction/sells something, Bike stickies the auction, User B wins and sends a cheque for £XXX off to A. For whatever reason, B's prize/item/experience isn't as advertised/as desired/what they wanted. User A wants nothing to do with it, User B tells all and sundry that they were ripped off on Bike's forum. Bike's reputation goes down the pan/User B gets in touch with Bike because one of our users ripped them off using our forum's good name.

Don't say it won't happen because that's not the case - it's sad, unfortunate and true.

Hence we have to keep our nose clean.

Which is a shame, but we do.

Sorry who got in touch with me?

KarTer got in touch with me. I understand the reasons behind the objections I really do. But its outrageous to say on the forum that "we got in touch with Punky" which is clearly insinuating that a staff memebr Pm'd me. You asked a moderator who doesn't have anything to with the magazine and is an all round nice guy who is helping you all out by modarating this forum.

*edited* resorting to name calling and insults is uncalled for. Apologises to Khal, and all the rest of the Bike staff. I still stand by all that is written above and my "flounce" anyone who wishes attempt to contact me can find some contact details on the challenge webpage.

Toodles
