I loved Bikes article on great summer moments. Simple uncluttered writing, about the basic joys of bikes without the need to worry about latest models, the last bhp figures, quickest lap times, or the need to buy something new that I haven't already got.
I particularly like the description of Ben Miller working away in the summer sun, completely in the zone, unhurried and perfect - although this is because what he described is an ideal I can only dream of while the rudimentary bits of bike maintenance I do involve bodging the thing with the wrong tool in a 12 minutes slot between getting home and putting the kids to bed.
For me, this mornings ride in had something particularly special. It was the first day of the year I have swapped my synthetic jacket and trousers for leathers and a lighter pair of gloves. The road was warm, a cuckoo was calling, and I felt lighter, faster, safer. I passed a red VFR which then picked up speed and followed me snaking through the traffic and we leap frogged each other into Paris and round the ring road until we went our separate ways. There was no competitiveness, no bravado or pressure to be outrageous or daring - in fact there was not even communication to speak of, but for 25 miles we were riding together and sharing a 100mph road trip - biker solidarity - looping, curving, swooping, pulling up, pulling off - alone apart from the three lanes of car drivers all lumbered with two wheels too many and a set of white lines to keep between.
So come on - give us a memory of sun and bikes and the knowledge that for an instant you were in the perfect place at the perfect time and would not have swapped places with anybody else in the world.

Good post.
I can certainly state that I am in the perfect place to ride a bike, Greece is two wheels mad and the weather is currently in the mid twenties, bright and sunny.
However, I am currently bikeless.

Perfect ride?
Three bikes heading back from a Grecian trip. Came to a junction, three way. Straight ahead was a sign to our next destination, with a smaller sign saying no lorries or trailers, left was a major road to the same place.
Two of us accelerated across the junction and for the next 20 miles or so we skidded, around bends, side by side, revving and tearing untill we reached the village. we stopped to wait for ou mate who arrived some time later wanting to know what on earth we were doing!
Absolute in the moment magic.
