I wonder if dan has the rights to foreign translations, or the publisher. I'll buy them for $39.99 for six languages. I know, I know, it's far too generous, but that's just me.

I read several of his articles, and I'm happy to say the space taken up in my mind, for remembering good writing, has not been used up by any of them. And yes, I know, my sentences are hardly gold standard.

for me the appeal of dan's writing isn't purely about whether he's a first class writer, it's about a combination of things. he had the balls to go off and do something that lots of us (me for one) only dream of doing. he writes about a subject we can relate to (bikes, albeit indirectly), travel, new experiences, low points, high points, chuck in a few cultural reference points i can relate to, a pretty smart turn of phrase and you've got a winning combination.

Read a fair few of Dans articles and found they varied from thought provoking excellence to utter dross.

I shall await the new installments with an open mind.

I have a feeling 'Jupiters Travels' will continue to remain my all time favourite motorcycle/travel book though. If you havent read it, go buy it right now!

Thanks for the plugs, hugs and kind words, kids. Really. And the unkind words are ok, too. Criticism's part of the deal.

Suerte, Dan

At the risk of sounding sycophantic, I've been waiting for this book for three years... fully expecting great things, from the best motorcycling journalist since LJK Setright and, indeed, HST..subjecitive, but,,,

I like Dan Walsh. A storm in a pint pot, a rebel without a clue, A Don Quixote for the  beaten generation.

En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme, no ha mucho tiempo que vivía un hidalgo de los de lanza en astillero, adarga antigua, rocín flaco y galgo corredor.

I'll steal a copy when I get the opportunity.

PS: IF I PROMISE TO BE NICE AND NOT INSULT YOU ANYMORE CAN I COME BACK KARTER?

Regards

iRich

Dan Walsh is, for me, the best writer in contemporary bike journalism (which I maintain is like being the world's tallest dwarf) and one of the very writers within that category who could write beyond the usual confines of the subject.

I've no wish to denigrate other Bike  staff - I think Ru Paul always puts out interesting articles, and Si Hargreaves and one or two others convey well what a particular bike rides like, or how different bikes compare (which, let's face it, must get pretty fucking samey bike after bike, month after month ) but I don't think I'd buy a bike magazine specifically for their writing, which I would for Dan Walsh. But then, I suppose that while I love riding bikes, I'm more interested in the experience of what riding means and less so in how the latest mental litre bikes compare, or how Honda have managed to shave 500 grammes off Bike X's frame.
